Imperial Towers
Titusville, FL
Year built: 1964
In 1961 President Kennedy set the goal of “landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth… before this decade is out.” The space race was on at Cape Canaveral, Florida. In 1964 the region around the Kennedy Space Center was a boom town. Aerospace engineers and thousands of space industry workers poured into the area. There were no places for them to live. Jack Mintzer, Bruce’s father, built The Imperial Towers Apartments in Titusville, Florida, which sits bay front directly across the Indian River from Cape Canaveral. Crowds of people would gather at the Imperial Towers to watch the Project Mercury space launches, and later the Project Apollo moon shots. The apartment project included a pool, mini-golf course, dock facility, coffee shop, and a restaurant / night club.
