Hibiscus Park

Port Salerno, FL
Years built: 1975 – 1979

Port Salerno Florida is a picturesque fishing village just a few minutes drive down Highway US 1 from Stuart.  Irving Stuart (Bruce and his father’s company) purchased about 50 building lots there in a subdivision called Hibiscus Park.  The project was named Third Century Homes as a tie-in to the United States 200th birthday celebration of 1976. Bruce and his father set up a model home that was visible from the Highway, and  put up a billboard on the Highway that advertised the houses and financing.  Bruce recorded a radio advertisement on local WSTU radio that you can hear below.  The low down payments and affordable financing drew people in. The customer could chose their location in Hibiscus Park, and their choice of model and colors.  After signing the sales contract, the plans were drafted, the building permits acquired, and the houses were built.  Each house was guaranteed against any defects for one year.  All fifty houses sold both to local families and to snowbirds from other states.
